Travel to Alamance Battleground and Hillsborough, NC for guided tours that fuse history with the fiction of Diana Gabaldon's Outlander books "Drums of Autumn" and "The Fiery Cross" and the fourth season of STARZ "Outlander".
You will hear of the historical figures and events in "Drums of Autumn" that have links to the Regulator movement and the Revolutionary War. It is for the Battle of Alamance that causes Jamie to bring the men of the Ridge together by raising "The Fiery Cross". Hillsborough was the epicenter of the Regulator Movement, where Brianna paints Mrs Sherton's portrait and where Roger recovers from his injuries at Alamance.
You will be greeted by your guide in the Cary Towne Center (1105 Walnut St, Cary) lot by the Food Court entrance where you will park your car and board a comfortable van to travel to Alamance Battleground.
At Alamance Battleground the guided tour begins with a viewing of a 20 minute film that provides historical background on the Regulator movement and the battle. We will then walk the battleground to review the historical and fictional events described in "The Fiery Cross".
We will then travel to Burlington for lunch at The Cutting Board. (lunch is not included).
Following lunch we travel to Hillsborough for a walking tour of this 'capital of the backcountry' that was the epicenter of the Regulator movement.
After the tour there is time for you to explore the quaint town of Hillsborough before heading back to Raleigh.
Please wear comfortable shoes as we will be walking at the battleground and in Hillsborough. About 8,000 steps.
